This school year, we hope to cover the narrative portions of the Old Testament books of Joshua, Judges, & Ruth along with chapters 8-28 from the New Testament book of Matthew. Children will be encouraged to cultivate their habits of attention while gaining valuable skill in narration as we reverently and expressively read together directly from the full translation of the scriptures. My hope is for children to encounter God and His word for themselves as they gain a familiarity of Bible text while filling their imaginations with the gradually unfolding story of His incredible word. An opportunity for discussion of theological ideas as stirred up by the childrens’ wonder will be provided during each lesson. To help “set the scene” for each story, a brief geographical, historical, and/or explanation of relevant biblical customs will be given to the children. Beyond the lesson itself, we will spend our remaining time together practicing regular recitation of scripture verses until memorized and scripture copy work on occasion. Children will also regularly enjoy beautiful and rich retellings of correlating Bible stories; beautiful paintings from masterful artists; and enriching nature study time or art projects as applicable. A weekly reading schedule will be provided as a guide for Bible readings at home
